Tips on Dealing with Stage Fright

Do you get stage fright before any presentation?

Let Buona Vista Toastmasters club share with you more about how to combat the butterflies in the stomach with… a Tiktok Dance!

1. Convert Stage Fright Nervousness to Excitement

When you are nervous, how do you feel?

Does your heart beat faster? Do you feel a little breathless? Does your feet get wobbly and shaky?

Now, think about the time when you are really excited about something. How do you feel?

Does your heart beat faster? Do you feel a little breathless? Does your feet get wobbly and shaky?

Interestingly, both Nervousness and Excitement are have the same ‘symptoms’!

So the next time you have stage fright, all we need to do is to tell our brain, to convert the diagnosis from the nervousness to… “I’m Super Excited”!

2. Believe in Your Content

Contrary to what most people think, audiences listen to a presentation not to judge the speaker.

Most of the time, they are there to listen to content relevant to them.

What does this mean?

While we can’t really control feelings of Stage Fright, we can control what we are going to present.

So, focus all your energy on delivering quality content, to give the audience something they will find useful.

Once you are less focused, you’d be less self-critical and naturally be more at ease on stage!

3. Join a Toastmasters Club!

In Toastmasters, we get a change to practice speaking in front of a crowd every meeting.

Check out what happened in our last meeting, where we had speakers deliver speeches they had prepared. We even had speakers come up and deliver Impromptu Speeches in our Table Topics segment!

Practice may not make Perfect. But it certainly helps make Progress.
