Speaker: Phoebe Yaw

General purpose : To persuade

Specific purpose : To convince the audience to Smile everyday

Smile is a facial expression that understood by all mankind as a sign of happiness, of joy expressed in a quiet way. Have you ever think of when do we know how to smile? Actually, we all know how to smiles before we know how to speak, normally around 4-5 months after we are born.

Smile – the universal language, no matter what religion, what culture, what language you speak, we still able to understand it.

REASON 1: Good Imperssion- Polite, Culture, Civilized

There is one person have said that, smile is the most beautiful language in the world. This is because when we smile, there is a message that it can deliver which is friendliness. When we offer a smile to somebody, that person will fell that we are polite and civilized. It just needs a smile to craft a good image.

REASON 2: The secret door to success

There is a man who god had given him an unattractive/unsightly appearance and his height is only 1.53m. He became an insurance agent when he was 30 years old. During His first half year of the insurance field, he had never got a single client. He had no money to pay for his rent therefore he slept on the bench of a park. When he had no money for food, he went to pick up those left over food that are for tramp/vagrant. When he had no money for transport, he walked to his destination. By the time god gave him those pains, at the same time god also gave him another kind of wealth which is confidence and optimistic. Everyday when he woke up from the bench of the park, he smiled to everyone who he met with. No matter what reaction of those people, whether returning a smile or not, he did not bother and his smile is always sincere, energetic and confidence. One day he met a rich business man in the park, the rich man was wondering why a man like him, whose life do not even had a proper meal can be so happy. Then the rich man had invited the salesman to have a good meal but it was rejected by him.  Instead going for the meal, the salesman ask the rich business man to buy his insurance. Therefore, he had managed to get his first client. Later, this rich businessman who was curious but happy had recommended his friends in the business field to the agent. Slowly, the smiles from the agent had spread across to more and more people. This insurance agent is a legendary salesman  name Yuan Yi Ping, the person who had top sales in Japan insurance from history until current. He is recognize as the ‘Most confidence Smile’ in Japan. Yuan Yi Ping also said that ‘There are many paths to success, smile and confidence is only one of the paths to success, but it is also a path that could not be lack of’.

REASON 3: Good for health

Smiling plays a very important role in maintaining and improving your health, both physically and emotionally. As Phyllis Diller once said: A smile is a curve that sets everything straight, and the smile can help you to stand out, improve people’s perception of your attractiveness and relieve any stress you might be experiencing. And if you’re still not convinced, there is evidence that those who smile often live an average of 7 years longer than those who rarely conjure a regular smile. Researchers at the University of Kansas found that the act of smiling has a positive effect on physical health, helping the heart recover more quickly after stressful events. Smile enhances your intake of oxygen-rich air, stimulates your heart, lungs and muscles, and increases the endorphins that are released by your brain. It is a fun way to improve your physical and mental well-being, the smile is free of charge and always available by choice..

A successful person has said that:”If we do not have good looks, then let ourselves to be talented, if we are not talented, then please smile often”. Smile, not only can show confidence, it also show a sense of polite, positive and optimistic outlook on life, and much better it is good for our health.
